Gilt Thread on Velvet Embroidered Tree of Life panel: C19th Syria interiors The lamps have been rewiredAn expertly worked old gold embroidered tree of life with birds on a black cotton velvet ground. Dating from the late 19th century and hand worked in Syria this is a good example of traditional gilt work embroidery from this region. Hand embroidered over card in a basket type stitch which gives a raised stumpwork effect.
