I think its more useful evaluating this card as a removal spell for artifact decks, because its cheap, and it can deal with the majority of threats that show up in EDH

3 mana is admittedly a lot to ask for spot removal, but you should have at least 4 lands by the time you want to use that side of the card, which will take out a lot of dangerous creatures when the need arises
